Detailers- How do I restore the black paint on my window trim?
One thing that bothers me the most about my Lexus is how bad the windows look... The black painted window trim is peeling away, as a result of sun damage and sand I assume form living most of it's life in California.
The window trim sticks out like a sore thumb to me every time I see it.
Is it easier to just replace the trim pieces, or can it be touched up with a special paint that I'm not aware of? As far as I know the strips are aluminum with a flat black paint on them.
If I could restore this, the overall look of the car would be improved.

thanks for any/all advice!

Replacement is in order, could be pricey but as you said it is an eyesore and you will be happy when the pieces are new.

Prepare for one heck of a DIY if you decide to change them out. I once attempted to change out the chrome surroundings to black on an Audi but eventually gave up after 8 hours of swearing - took it to the dealer and got a nice 4K bill. And that was without parts!

I plan on replacing the chromed window trim on my E30 with the black ones.

Thanks for the advice guys... Not sure what I'm gonna do but apparently it's not as easy as I was expecting.
I was thinking maybe sand down all of it and paint it by hand, is that not possible? It's my 2nd car so I can work on it in the garage and take my time.
