71 Bronco - Prepare to drool Bronco lovers
A good friend of mine had this 71 Bronco built for him around 7 or 8 years ago. It has a 347 Stroker with a Vortech blower running through a beefed up C-4. I went with him to Mustang Ranch in San Jose when he first got it to have it dyno tuned and saw it put down 470+hp to the 32" rear tires. He has asked if he could park it at my house for a while and in return I can drive it whenever I want.
I picked it up today and it is a blast to drive. It is scary fast and really, really loud. It is nicely sorted out, stable and has amazing traction off the line. Roll-on acceleration from 50 mph or so is as fast as anything I have ever been in. It has an incredibly lumpy idle that sounds every bit the business. Driving something with that much power and torque in such a small and old vehicle (albeit one with totally beefed up and rebuilt suspension and brakes) is simply intoxicating. The sensation of speed is magnified dramatically. I may take it to the local strip to run an 1/8 mile to see what it can do. Mu guess is that it would hit around 120 in the 1/4 mile and there is NO WAY I am taking up to that speed. My friend and I have hand-timed some 0-60 runs in the 4 second flat range. That much power in a small truck that hooks up translates into some dramatic acceleration.
Here are a few pics. Enjoy!!!!

I WILL have a 66-77 Bronco one day and I will beat the piss out of it offroad. I love those things. My neighbor has had one rusting next to his house for about 10 years. I asked him if he would be willing to sell it, he said he was going to restore it, that was 8 years ago

I hope the puny little microphone on my camera can do this motor justice. It sounds more than just loud. It has the lumpy, rapsy, quick-revving sound of a seriously built small block. The sound is intoxicating!!!!
He had the driveline built for traction with a Moser 36 spline, 9" Ford rear end along with a custom-made 4 link rear suspension. It runs through a heavily beefed up C4 3 speed auto. Not sure what speed stall converter it is running. It hooks and goes like very few things I have ever ridden in or driven, including his 700 hp Superformance Cobra that struggles for traction at anything below 70-80 mph. With 2 of us in it, we have hand-timed 0-60 in a little less than 4 seconds. It is a fun truck to cruise around in, but it is REALLY loud, its not crazy about idling for long periods of time and the gas fumes can be bad at times. Its like driving around inside of a chainsaw powered blender filled with rocks and gasoline. The dual side pipes that exit in front of the rear tires with almost no baffling in the mufflers don't help either. All that being said, I love it!!!!!!
My Scout is definitely a more civilized and quiet cruiser. Once I clear space in my garage so I can park the Bronco next to my Scout, I can take the top off. Hopefully within a few weeks
