I love that engine shot! Man, that thing is a beast!

You should take some side-by-side shots with your Scout when you get the new carb put on!

I have a sound clip of start up/idle/revving How do I post it? Its an .avi file of around 90 megs that I shot with my small digital camera. Sound quality is OK, but it gives an idea of what lurks under the hood of the beast.

Lets try and see if this works. The sound quality is terrible, but you get the idea.

It idles pretty well once it is warmed up. It coughs, spits and belches when its cold. This video is a start from cold. You can hear the fuel pump priming before the motor starts.

^It worked for me. That thing really sounds mean, reminds me of the sound my airboat makes when its firing up. Goes through a similar spitting and coughing before the 454 is warmed up.

Awesome Bronco. I've owned two so far: a 71 and a 73. Great truck. Who built it for him?

It was a "hodge-podge" build done by a local shop in the East Bay (Walnut Creek) about 8 years ago. This was the first car my friend commissioned and his first mistake was hiring a mechanic/friend and not a specialist. A great job was done speccing the parts but it took a while to get it sorted out. The most glaring initial error was sticking with the stock leaf spring rear suspension set up. That much grip and that much HP caused too much axle twist and the rear u-joint blew out in the first few days. Several thousand dollars and a custom made, rear 4-link suspension set up cured the problem. It took a while to get the exhaust set up properly as well. There were a few other things but it has been very well sorted out and bullet-proof for several years now. It is not set up for off-road, and I'm not sure it ever has been on anything more extreme that some fire trails at Lake Tahoe.

He has moved on to other cars/builds including a 700 hp 427FE Superformance Cobra and his current project, an Eleanor styled GT500 with a Vortech SC aluminum big block in addition to his DD wich is a Kleemann Stage 4 E55. Needless to say, those projects were done right the first time Supposedly, I am going to "babysit" the Cobra at some point in the near future as well.

As far as the Bronco goes, the motor is a 347 stroker built by a race shop in Napa that builds sprint car motors. It was built to make huge hp using a Vortech SC and has a custom ground cam for the SC/compression ratio/pump gas combo. It will run all day at 6,500 rpm but it has a nice, flat power delivery that starts around 1,500 rpm then comes on the cam around 3,000 when all hell breaks loose. I may have mentioned before it has a custom bladder fuel tank with a heavy duty fuel pump set-up (see the pic of the back). I has a super heavy duty Moser 9" Ford rear end and a built up C4. It never overheats and once its warmed up it idles easily in traffic without overheating, albeit an extremely lumpy, smelly idle. It was dyno tuned by a Ford small block guru on a Mustang chassis dyno at Mustang Ranch in the San Jose area when he first got it. I think it is running a bit too rich right now. It might be time to have it re-tuned.
