A Few Days in a 2011 Cayenne S and Turbo
#12
I was recently given the opportunity to drive a '11 Cayenne Turbo and while it's fast and comfortable, it never once had me convinced it was a sports car. It's an immensely capable car to drive over damn near anything and always felt poised but to be honest, there's nothing really dramatic about it that made me want one. I was amazed at how smooth the speed piled on and the thrust never seemed to end, but from the driver's seat, it never felt that fast, nor did it feel particularly exciting.
Maybe that's what makes it so special? That it can accelerate faster than anything that heavy has any right to, yet it does so with no drama whatsoever.

My boss had a previous model turbo and now has the new one. I don't think the looks are night and day, and the thing that really impressed me about it is that it HAULS for an SUV. And its comfy. But I never thought it was a sports car either.

I agree with everything Stoppie wrote.
Test drove a Cayenne S and it was like driving a high car. Awesome machine. I'd love one.
But bought a normal car instead.
When the wife wants a new car, I'll be hard pushed not to buy a Cayenne.

I'll say...I had a chance to demo a Cayenne Turbo at the track about a month ago. We were able to test drive both the S and the Turbo following a pair of 997 C2S and 997TT and I was thoroughly impressed at the way the Turbo managed to build up speed faster than any SUV has a right to. I managed to get mine up to 140-145 mph in one section where most other sports cars including the RS America could only manage 135 mph. Of course I had to brake HARD before that first sweeper turn. That was the only time where I could truly feel the extra weight of the Cayenne Turbo but not to the point where it'd be uncontrollable. It felt planted, surefooted and easy to manage. I came away from this experience also impressed too, Chris.
Oh...this is what I looked like after riding in a hot lap in the Cayenne Turbo with my buddy driving.

The line-up. Turbo, S, C2S and 997TT.
