It's no V1 or 9500ix but...

But the cost of just one ticket is a lot more. I have only one ticket on my record which I got driving a rental car with no laser jammer.
That ticket 84 in a 55, which means 4 points plus cost $400 fine, plus $600 annual increase in insurance. It stays on the driving record for 3 years, so the cost of that one ticket is $2200.
So you only need to believe that you will avoid 1 ticket to pay back the cost of a v1 and laser interceptor.

It's common sense really. People try to save $300 bucks on a radar detector.

While I agree that over time a quality detector (V1, escort, etc) will save you money, not all tickets will result in penalties like your 84 in a 55. My one and only speeding ticket was for doing 55 in a 35. I don't know how many points I got, but the ticket was only $165 and my insurance didn't go up at all.
My argument remains, however, that for people who don't have $300-$400+ to spend on a radar, a $50 one is better than none at all.

I completely disagree. It is worse to have a false sense of security than no sense of security.

Do the locks on your doors make you feel secure in your home?
