Have been thinking about this for a while.

Given the level of investment required to provide rear seat entertainment, surely at $499 the iPad is going to make people think twice about installing?

I was asking if people considered the iPad as an alternative to permanently mounted screens on the back of headrests.

 

I think it's a brilliant idea. I can see folks having little iPad mounts all over the place, and using the device as a portable access to everything they use. Cell phones have attempted this, but there are times you just need a bigger screen. Assuming the iPad comes with enough horsepower to store and render HD video, why wouldn't you stick one in the back seat with the kids, and let them watch a Cars Blu-Ray rip? I forget if the iPad has Bluetooth, but running the audio track through the car stereo wirelessly would be pretty cool.

What we really need is a foldable screen, linked to a physically small device. Big screen when you want it, but portable.
