My 1st drive in a 981 Boxster S
Went in for 5k mile service for the TT RS this morning and was surprised to see the 1st 981 Boxster S was dropped off last night.
Car looks really nice in person. The most impressive changes to me are the Side vents and the way the rear spoiler is carried over to the tail lights, very nice attention to detail. Interior looks and feels nice, just missing the sport design steering wheel. Don't know why Porsche is still pushing this Push button PDK wheel, only thing I didn't like about the car. My sales guy was kind enough to let me take it out for a short drive after I shot some pics. The engine note sounds good, this one didn't have PSE but still nice, would have been great if PSE was on it. Just went on a short easy drive with a mix of freeway and side roads. The suspension feels firm but doesn't "hurt" over bumps. PDK was nice, very smooth quick shifts and very responsive in manual( better if it had the paddles) mode. Hope to get in a longer test drive on a later date. I like this new Boxster S, I think Porsche really stepped up their game with this one.

Your Cayman R is very tempting. I'd make it my weekend car and drive the 997S as my DD. Talk about bonkers...
Dave I still think a TT-RS and GT-R are two of the best you can get. I'd only dump one if you HAD to have an open car. Personally I think the TT-RS is the best real-world car you can buy if you consider practicality, usability of power, etc.

I am confused - they offer both the paddles and the push button PDK? All of the test videos I have seen have been with paddles. I personally think the push button wheel is unacceptable from a manufacturer like Porsche.

I had a C4S with PDK for two years with the buttons. Did they bother me? Nope. One handed shifting? Try that with paddles. FWIW, I never bothered with the buttons unless I was drinking some water - I always used the console shifter.
And why is it unacceptable? It's pretty ergonomic...
If you want to talk about stupid buttons to shift, check these out:
