Porsche Cancels Sub-Boxster Model
#11
I think this is all part of a VW Group market strategy decision. Not a Porsche decision.
Porsche is without doubt going to be more integrated into the VW Group. The group needs to manage their brand names and there are two important, but opposite, considerations here:
- Making sure they benefit from shared technology
- Avoid them from cannibalizing on each other
There might be a future plans with other brands that makes it less interesting to launch a "baby Boxster" at this point. A possible entry level sports car from another brand, sharing platform with other VW Group brands, might be in the can already. Porsche might be involved in developing technology for this platform, but not using it for their own brand.
