Post Geneva 2011: Porsche Cayman R in Silver

Porsche is celebrating the European debut of 2012 Porsche Cayman R introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The new Cayman R is 55 kilograms (121lb) lighter and has ten horsepower more than the Cayman S. With its specially adapted sports chassis, it provides an even more precise driving experience than the Cayman S.

The new mid-engine coupé is powered by a tuned-up 3.4 liter six-cylinder engine developing 330hp (243kW). In the standard configuration it transmits its power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox that propels the car from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 5.0 seconds. You can also get a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) that reduces its acceleration time to 4.9 seconds.

The Cayman R can be supplied with one of the optional Sport Chrono packages, taking it to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.7 seconds. The new mid-engine coupé is capable of a top speed of 282km/h (175mph) with manual gearbox, or 280km/h (174mph) with PDK.

Love it! But the 0-60 is creeping into 911 territory. Careful Porsche... you might have to ditch the rear engine after all.

still doesnt work for me. sorry. They just didnt take the design far enough.

If they:

gave it a crazy wing (ducktail, gt style, etc)
maybe crazy fender flares
maybe a wild front end with cf bonnet
built in cage

something. but not a Cayman S with graphics and Spyder wheels.

cool car but disapointed.......

I kind of agree. It really is just a slightly upgraded Cayman S, but it doesn't cost much more so for me, I would get this over the S although it really depends on what you are looking for. Either way, it looks awesome whether it's an S or an R.

I agree. A Cayman R with heated sport seats in a cool color combo is a sweet ride no matter what --- just WISHED that

Cayman R was to Cayman S like Boxster Spyder is to Boxster S

but alas, its not......

/on topic

Silver w black wheels is hot

Thank God, I am not alone in this world!

Thank you... unlike the Spyder that was given a major look change, they did nothing to the R but adding an ugly rear wing!

No major changes, but I still think it looks great, and I like the spoiler.

I'm keeping my Spyder though.

Even the wing was from the parts bin (Sport Design Package). There was not a single item specifically designed for the Cayman R visually... Where the roof, rear humps, side intakes and front intakes are all completely exclusive to the Spyder.
