I would love it if it were true... i just won't believe it until I see something official.
The Cayman can already keep up with a 911 on a road course like Tskuba Circuit, if not beat it, but Porsche is VERY conservative with their numbers. They claim a Cayman can reach 60 in 4.6 with PDK and Sport Chrono, but it's actually 4.3, while the manual 911 Carrera is claimed at 4.7, while in reality, it's 4.5. The Cayman would probably have 330hp, Porsche would claim 4.5 to 60, but in reality, it's 4.2. I've also heard (this is not verified) that it costs less to build a 911 than it does a Cayman, but I don't believe it.

They build more 911's. So I'm sure the build cost would be cheaper than a Cayman. Sadly this wouldn't reflect in pricing. 911>Cayman.

pcgtmay6: I am well aware of all that, thanks.

330hp will mean that the engine and exhaust is still identical to the current cayman. + a more aggressive tune. Still chickening out on hp. Sad.

Finally. Someone who shares my sentiments. I have not owned a PDK/DSG/F1 car, but every time I drive them I say to myself "this isn't fun".

Cheers.

Craig - If I had 3-4 cars, I wouldn't mind ONE of them having a PDK-type transmission. But in my daily driver, it's a bummer. It's so strange, I went from two manual cars (RS4, Cayman) to two dual-clutch cars (GTI, C4S). I need to get rid of the C4S and get a GT3 already...
