Cayman S - Flat out run

I tool my standard Cayman S to an event called VMAX run by the Pistonheads site a few weekends ago.

Its held at Bruntingthorpe proving ground in England which has a 2 mile runway (the laser traps are positioned at about 1.7 miles after which you are hard on the brakes).

My car (no PASM on 18 inch standard wheels) ran a best of 162 mph. Last year anotherCayman S ran 164 but it was a very hot day when I went so not best conditions.

Interestingly another Cayman S there on the day had a custom sports exhaust and had a remap and a lot of other work done to it (about 10 thousand Euros worth) only did 165.

You would need a few more miles but I have no doubt the car is good for the 170 Porsche claim.

Sounds like a blast! If you really want to test the top speed, just hop on over the Germany!

This just reminded me of something; although it's I'd still like to provoke some comments to see what you guys think.

One thing that has always puzzled me is the flaming that forum posters (this is obviously not restricted to TS) receive when they brag about going fast on any roads other than the Autobahn. It's almost as if the legality (or lack thereof) of speeding makes it either "ok" or simply egregious, with no in-between.

I do concede that the roads themselves and the habits of drivers in Germany are more conducive to high speed driving, but it's not as if you couldn't do it safely on a rural Interstate (the biggest risk likely being your license), as long as you had a quality high performance car with strong brakes, new and inflated tires, lots of open room, and familiarity with the tarmac.
