Totally savage, I love it. Once in San Diego I saw a high-speed low-pass by a B-1 Bomber on full afterburners. I'll never forget that sound.

Afterburners consist of dumping raw fuel behind the turbine. The turbine exhaust gasses are hot enough the ignite the fuel. This explosion from this is directed out the nozzles.

Afterburners go through fuel at a ridiculous rate, but provide TONS of thrust.
