The Future in Helicopter Aviation....

That is too bad, it was an amazing machine. Perhaps they will restart the program one day.

The Osprey was in development over 15 years ago, and it had a very troubled beginning. Many of the early models crashed until they fixed a problem with the engine nacelles. About 8-10 years ago they announced plans to build a civilian version with Agusta as their partner and they were going to build the 609. I remember seeing it in person many years ago and I'll include a picture here. Last I heard they were canceling the program, but it would be great if it were back on track. I think it's such a cool aircraft. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

YouTube - BA609 Trailer Must See
The unique characteristics of the BA609 tiltrotor combine the benefits of a helicopter and a fixed wing aircraft into one aircraft. Taking off and landing vertically, flying above adverse weather conditions with up to nine people in comfort in a pressurised cabin at twice the speed, typical of helicopters, the BA609 represents the next generation of aircraft transport aimed at government and military markets. This multi-mission aircraft can be configured for search and rescue, law enforcement, maritime surveillance, training and government applications. The BA609 will be certified for instrument flying in known icing conditions and features a composite fuselage and wings, an advanced glass cockpit and full fly-by-wire digital controls. These advanced military-derived technologies will provide new levels of performance, reliability and affordability for future operators. AgustaWestland and Bell harness their combined design, development, production, and customer support strengths in the joint venture company Bell/Agusta Aerospace (BAAC) to provide the BA609.

See https://teamspeed.com/forums/team-sp...tml#post800557 for the plethora of issues with the Osprey program.
Yup.
I think Bell worked with Boeing on the Osprey, and now Bell is working with Agusta Westland. The BA part of the name leads me to think Bell/Agusta...
