The Next Big Thing - Murcielago successor details!
#72
I understand that the excitement levels experienced by the millions of Lamborghini lovers whilst anticipating the release of the next flagship model go through the roof. However, may i say that as far as i'm concerned and from what i have been led to believe, those of us who are owners of the current Murcielago's and the previous V12 models, may in fact be the last owners of cars that are a part of history that has defined Lamborghini. We may be owners of cars that, in the future, enthusiasts will be wishing never were touched, that in fact they were perfect. I absolutely adore my 670 SV as i did my previous Diablos and LP 640 Roadster. These models improved with technology but the same DNA was present in all of them. The unique feel of a V12 Lamborghini was present in all of these cars. I"m quite sure that the new flagship car will be packed with cutting edge technology. Modern chassis design, materials and components, electronics and a huge horsepower and greener motor are sure to be incorporated in the new car. But, and i choose my words carefully here, will it FEEL like a Lamborghini or are we going to have a fast and unemotional, super efficient, luxurious tourer. I make this post because i cant help but feel that we are possibly moving into the Gallardo type of car (no offense intended to Gallardo owners). The last thing that i would want to see as a die hard Lamborghini owner is a new era where effiency replaces emotion. Where one would ask "Where is the Italian in Lamborghini?" Hopefully the answer will be "It's still full blooded Italian"
Hitting 185 plus in 5th gear on the back stretch was a dream...and let me add..the 3 pedal car showed NO LOSS in performace over and E-Gear car..to be quite honest with you..IMO and several others..the only two cars that were ahead of the pack all day long..were 3 pedal cars...#12 mine and Mr V.B. who I had the pleasure with to pass others and stay up at the front in his 3 pedal car as well..I felt as if I was in an elite group...man that guy can drive..and it was a pure compliment to the car I was operating that it was one of a very small number of the 49 cars plus that was not over taken by Mr V.B....but scary as hell with him behind you for over a 3 mile course in several laps LOL LOL
I also enjoyed the "old School" laps I placed on my 1996 SV-R...that truly reminded my of WHY I drive a V-12 Lamborghini..
YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Sorry you have had a Lemon car...my experiance has been trouble free for years on ALL my Lambos..but then again I place miles on them and exercise them regulary..which IMO is the most important thing you can do to these fine machines

Thanks Shadowman and Roy for your comments. It's reassuring to know that other lamborghini owners 'get' what i'm trying to explain with respect to the next flagship car. Of course i anticipate it impatiently as well. I just hope that the unique and unmistakeable qualities that have stirred so many enthusiasts blood is present in abundance in the new car. I vividly remember many journalists who had their first drives of the SV last year stating that it would be a huge task to top the SV with the future model. I'm with you Roy you could not get me to give up my SV for anything.

Reading this makes me miss my '05 6-speed Murcielago. I know exacty what you mean about the spirit of the car. In my opinion, no other car will ever touch what Lamborghini accomplished with the Murcielago/LP line. Perhaps the last of the true Lamborghinis.

Everytime a new V12 lambo is released everyone considers the last one to be the last REAL lambo. People screamed bloody murder when the Diablo came out after the Countach ( Lambo was owned By Chrysler) and complained that the Diablo was not a REAL Lambo. Same thing happened with the Murciealgo.
As for the comment of lambo being unreliable, in my experience they have always been THE MOST RELIABLE.

+1... before i became a dedicated Lamborghini owner i owned quite a few Ferrari's and they were totally unreliable. I still remember a 355 Spider of mine going to the service centre when nearly new 13 weeks in a row!

My apprehension regarding the up comming replacement for the Murcielago is based on the fact that the existing V12 motor is being dropped for what i presume will be an Audi developed V12. The evolution of Miura to Countach to Diablo to Murcielago was IMO a seamless transition and an evolution of an evocative motor vehicle. Now we appear to be starting with a clean sheet. I am only suggesting that i hope we are not getting into an era where parent company infuences dominate the charachter of the new car. If the new car is a 'better' LP 560 then i think it would be a tradgedy for Lamborghini. As i said in my earlier post on the subject i am sure it will be cutting edge etc but i hope that the italian flair that distinguishes Lamborghini will not be lost in the mix.
As with you my LP670-4 SV makes me smile and she leaves no doubt to all of her blood line.
I am excited for Lamborghini because it remains a fact that Lamborghini must progress or die and through the process of progressing new audiences are brought into the family.
The Gallardo is a great example; they are IMO Lamborghinis and are also a great example of how through progress a new audience was brought into the family; from a business standpoint all would agree that Lamborghini needed a cash flow vehicle to survive and IMO to keep Audi standing behind them and by presenting the Gallardo; a gal that is able to be reliably driven daily with only modest service costs it forced the other marquees to sit up and IMO change their “it’s an exotic that is rarely driven and owned by only the well healed” attitude as such reliability which IMO was way down on their list of issues commanding their attention is now at the forefront which in end is a win for all of us.
So will tomorrow bring another "BULL"; a visceral in your face gal who's drum beats so extreme that to a person they are noticed or rather a badass supercar adorned with the bull roundel; I suspect more of the later and yet through the years that which sets Lamborghini a part from the crowd has remained as such I expect albeit different that this component will remain.
All the best
