What's It Like To Ride One Of These Bulls
#12
I beg to differ. I was driving my SV this morning to our weekly E@RTC event. I was thinking to myself how lucky I was to be driving such an amazing car. I've never had a moment in either of my Lamborghinis to ever take them for granted or feel like my time in them wasn't special. What goes through my head over and over is to not take the moment for granted, that it is a unique experience that few will ever have. I spent years working to get to the point of ownership and I never forget all the long days, lost weekends, and countless hours in the office to get me to this point. It's not just a hunk of metal to me, it's a personal achievement, and I love to drive. Yea, I have other cars and almost every car is a dream car to someone, but driving really special cars does something for me that no other experience can match. It will never replace family, but it is uniquely different from family. I grin EVERY time I get behind the wheel. AND, if it's not special, you're in the wrong car.

Driving an exotic is great. But it probably won't live up to your expectations.
All cars have quirks and things that you won't like about them.
Once you work hard enough to plunk down the cash for a six figure car, you almost expect it to drop out of the sky and drive on water.
Not trying to burst your bubble. But cars are nothing compared to a nice quiet time at the park with you wife and kids.
At the end of the day, it is just a hunk of metal.
You will learn that.

We know that you cannot take the gals with us and frankly I do not recall Tommy stating this his gal replaces other things in his life such as family and friends however what he did say was how much he enjoys time with her and appreciates those moments in time “very” much as this was a personal goal achieved; damn this seems to me to be a wonderful thing and personal experience shared with all.
I too enjoy my gals and yet sadly they can sit for months at a time without me being able to exercise them because as with Tommy they are a moment in time to be enjoyed when able to and not a reflection to others of who he/we are. I enjoy my gals most when exercised under the cloak of darkness when it is me and the gals; I do not need a thumbs up from another to feel good about the decisions that I make because I am the first one that gives the thumbs up and personal acknowledgement; to myself.
The gals are certainly an extremely well orchestrated and cool collections of nuts, bolts, and washers surrounded in this case with a vast amount of carbon fiber however at their nose and arse is the name; Lamborghini and not Tommy or Shadowman as such seat time within them is available to “all” that make this an important personal goal/desire in their life.
Owning an extreme exotic makes us no different from anyone else and no less loving towards family and friends but rather for me they are fine art that I can exercise in real time once in awhile and for those that understand this no words need be exchanged and for those that do not they likely never will no matter how many words are shared.
Find your own drummer and your path will become your dream realized because failing to do so will leave you vicariously living the dream of another.

The SV gets more attention than the LP640 did, mostly because car people know it's rare. I actually get chased a lot which is a bit creepy. On more than one occasion, I've had to go past my own driveway and around the back way to get home without being followed. 90% of the time it's people who are just into cars, but there are haters out there too.
Generally people are extremely nice and the conversation is intelligent, but I do get tired of the, "Hey, what are you doing with my car." as if that's the least bit original. Oh, one of the best lines ever was when I was getting gas and someone walked up to the LP640 and said, "I'm not going to say anything to you because you have that car." I reminded him that he just did. I giggled about that for an hour straight.

One other thing I need to add about what it's like to drive this car. I have a relationship with the factory. I know the senior team and I've been through the factory in detail. I know the head of R&D, the head of the design team, etc., and because of that, I feel a sense of connection with the car on the personal level. I remember the individuals on the assembly line in each step so when I look at my car, I can picture in my head who was working on which piece. There aren't that many people who work on the assembly line as it is. My SV is a more refined version of my LP640 and I understand their accomplishment when they improved their work. It's not just a car to me, but a collection of commitments to do something really unique and special. I never think of it as just my car or just a bunch of parts, ever. It's much more personal than that to me.

Racing a RTurbo in a RT12 is probably one of my best memories to date... So I guess sometimes it's better than sex.
No experience with Lamborghinis though. Should have gotten a ride in a Heffner one when it was here.
