Ok, wheels are coming off soon. Also should I powdercoat the wheels or paint them? I like the gloss black look but over time won't they chip off? Powdercoating will make them a flat/matte color, is that correct?

The 997 is going in for a PPI today and should be shipped out by next week to LA to it's new home. I'll be sad to see it go.

My son is hilarious. I'm teaching him to say "Lambo" but he thinks I'm saying "lamb" which he relates to the song Ba-ba black sheep. So when I say Lambo, he says "ba-ba" He loves the car, whenever he sees it he gets this smile on his face and points at it. Like father, like son.

Also, thanks for posting that downshift video, the sound haunts me in my dreams. Seeing that makes me giddy. I may have to go home early today to um, "check" on a few things.

 

I saw a Black SL in Monterey just like yours with powder coated stock SL wheels in a dark , matte color and it looked really, really good.

 

My 911tt GT3 wheels are painted from the factory, gloss black.

My GT wheels are powdercoated from the factory in Satin Black.

My buddy had his GT wheels powdercoated in GLOSS BLACK. Seriously!!

They all look great. I prefer the Satin, but really, whatever floats your boat man. If you get 'em powdercoated, make sure the guys know what they're doing. High heat can ruin your wheels.

Apart from that, I haven't noticed any chips on the painted wheels. Yet. I hope to keep it that way (knocking on wood).


My kids were the same. They're always correcting people who can't say "Porsche". And if they really can't say it, they tell them to just call it a 911. Kids are so great!!! And the first time I took my little guy in the GT, well wow. He couldn't see over the door sill, but that didn't deter him from calling it HIS car right from the second the engine started up!!!

Huge congrats, ATL! You deserve this one for sure! I bet the guy knocked $10k off the price because of those ugly ass wheels...

 

I think the SL wheels look sick as is, but I understand your desire to individualize the car. Whatever you decide will be badass I'm sure!

Congrats! You went big! I thought you were looking at 04-05 G, but you go and get a SL. That's how you do it!

Run the straight pipes. I went on a rally with (dare I mention his name) Fred and listening to his SL with straight pipes was insane.
