It's a shame they've come so far in the build only to install the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car. Hopefully they can fix that for you before you take delivery.

Sure looks nice though.

Looking sweet Jon. Looking forward to our drive through Europe in August with that! And the EVO Triangle in April. And...

I thought I'd be OK to see this but I have to say that this is a real pisser. I waited 2 years to get a V12V and at the time I picked out 2 cars so that I would be able to transition to the V12VR. I have been a convertible driver since high school. My V12V is the first coupe that I have owned. I must say that your choices are impeccable. Lord's Red is one of the richest colors that I have ever seen. The stitching is gorgeous and I love the boot on the shifter. I am envious but fortunately I have a McLaren MSO spider on it's way to the US to help ease my suffering.

That's a beautiful spec on, in my opinion, the best Aston Martin. Congrats!

I know what you've been through Jay. If funds permitted, whilst I love the idea of a track car, a specialist GT car and a classic(s), in reality the perfect stablemates would be the 12C Spider you have on order and a V12VR - for what I actually do, they would be the perfect combination alongside a DD - manual v flappy, V12 n/a front engine v mid small engine with forced induction, soft top v folding hard top, old school v the most modern, etc. Oh well, one step at a time, maybe in the future if funds permit - what spec have you gone for ?

For those that might be interested, I've gone through my old emails, as much for my own curiosity - here's the saga - sorry it's a long one !

Having been continuously told V12VR wouldn't happen, with hints that it had been looked at but dismissed for various reasons such as aero problems, re-positioning of fuel tank and general 'it doesn't quite work' (extra weight and chopping of roof don't quite fit with the concept of the V12V) I bought a V8S Roadster (ex dem) in August 2011 when I finally mentally gave up on the idea. I always had at the back of my mind it might happen of course, hence buying an ex-demo - there was no way I was going to be able to buy 2 brand new specced from scratch Astons within a yr or two of each other and I didn't want to have to pass if it became reality, however slim the chances were looking

I also briefly flirted with the Zag, having my name down on one from the very first announcement, until I received the contract with the price ! It had earlier been indicated to me that it would be substantially less money and somewhat more 'tweaked' than the eventual identical running gear to the V12V

Then on 15th December 2011 (just 4 months after buying the S) came the announcement to a group of customers visiting Gaydon, from Dr Bez, that Roadster would happen, late 2012, 50-100 cars. The factory were (apparently) completely caught out by the announcement and there was no news whatsoever for the next 5 months, during which period it looked like it may have gone cold.

On May 2nd however at a Dealer Principal conference, it was confirmed that 100 cars would be built at the end of 2012, £150k (UK) price point. I was told straight away (an excited call that day from the dealership), as were some others by their dealers - only people who had expressed strong interest were told and we all kept very quiet until someone spilled the beans on a forum on May 21st and slowly, news started to become more openly known. I placed a 5k deposit down in the first week of May

Around the same time, it was the Bonhams NP sale and Aston people there were starting to talk about it, but only in hushed tones and only after I made clear I already knew. It was whilst there I finally saw a ceramic grey DBS in the flesh and knew that was the colour I wanted, though I did flirt with racing green right til the last minute

It was also around then I got a call to say I could have a 12C Spider for March/April 2012 delivery, something I'd been chasing for a while. The call came about 1 week too late - V12VR was firmly on the horizon and I knew there may never be another opportunity

Pics of V12VR started surfacing a week or two later and then in early June, the dealers got a basic outline spec that they were given permission to share with those who had their name down - I went to the dealership to have a look at the paperwork the Wednesday before Le Mans

Although I had a 5k deposit down and had been told I definitely had one from early/mid June, I was a little concerned as to how 'concrete' it was until 2nd July when someone mentioned they had been allocated a plaque number - I put my call into the dealer and ended up with No. 005 - it was only then I saw it in my mind as being definite not only as happening, but also definitely happening for me !

Went to the factory in July to spec up and of course the result is in the photos (an even longer saga involved in speccing, 100+ emails backwards & forwards) then 31st August I got the call to say a demonstrator would be arriving at the dealership on 6th September - did I want to drive it ?!?

I can't help think I'll appreciate the car that much more bearing in mind the history, legwork, etc as outlined above - this is a definite long term keeper so I hope in the future I can buy a 2nd sports car to sit alongside this one and my DD, not replace V12VR.

In the meantime I'm just looking forward to driving it ! I already have planned road trips to the JLC factory in Geneva in April, Le Mans in June and a European Alpine Pass tour with fellow teamspeeder Paul and others from Gentleman Drivers Club in August.....2013 is going to be a great year ! The factory tell me that a very high percentage of V12VR owners are proper enthusiasts who will be driving the cars rather than treating them as garage queens and all are referring to them as keepers - I have a feeling very few indeed will end up available on the market for the first few years

a few pics by the detailer towards the end of the day

he carried out a wash, correction (next to none needed), enhancement and then applied wolfs sealant (with a thin layer of carnuba on top just to add some gloss) on both the bodywork & wheels, with glassex to the windows and Scotchguard to the carpets

ventureshield film being applied later this week

collection saturday
