I’ve always been one to quantify as many decisions as possible. I know it’s hard to do with an emotional decision such as a car purchase but I think you can factor in some of these elements.

Consider a relative scaling measure of DBS vs N420 vs DB9 SP represented numerically 1 – 5 (poor to excellent). Note this scale is relative, and not absolute, so ratings I’ve used not applicable outside of these 3 cars.

Category Weights N420 DB9 DBS
Price 6% 4 4 3
Running Costs 7% 4 3 3
Depreciation 7% 4 3 4
Aesthetics 20% 4 4 5
Performance 15% 4 4 5
Sound 15% 4 4 5
Comfort 10% 3 4 4
Space 10% 3 4 4
Weighted Relative Score 3.40 3.46 3.97

(unfortunately table will not be displayed, but i think you get the gist.

I used 3 broad categories and broke them down. Costs (20%), Aesthetics / Performance (50%) and Practicality (30%).

Well you get the idea, assumptions like depreciation on N420 being less (as limited edition), but similar to that on second hand DBS, may be wrong, but seemed logical to me.

Disclaimer: I do not own nor have I driven any of the 3, so scores shown might be BS. Also categories and weights used in analysis are entirely subjective (what I view as important in my car buying decisions), will be different in each person’s ‘universe’. This is just meant to be a bit of fun, so consider it in the same nature that it was intended.

I'm going to throw another wrench into the mix...the Vantage V12. Probably the ultimate Aston Martin right now, even moreso than the DBS. In fact, I'd hardly consider an AM as a DD at all. A local DBS owner just traded it in for a 458 after owning two of them.

I've always imagined a DB9 Volante as the perfect DD.

back on topic, I think the NS420 would be a bette DD than the DBS. The DBS seems like it is too much of a car for a DD.

If you want supercar performance for a decent price, extremely reliable as well: you should consider a 911 Turbo. Buy a used one and instead of the DB9, maybe you can squeeze in the Aston as well.

Just my humble opinion. Enjoy whatever you end up deciding on! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

LOL. I have a 911 Turbo S cab. I use it as a part time DD.

Ha, I also have a turbo as a daily in the summer. But I'd happily rock a DBS as a DD if I could get away with just two seats. Right now, my kids fit in the back of my Porsche. They'd kill me if I got a car without back seats.

You can't blame the guy for not knowing the 10 cars that you don't have listed in your sig!

Primo:
Let me get this straight: You recently bought GT2RS and 599 GTO and now you're off looking for another possible purchase? I know that those two beasts are not the best DD material, but with as many cars as you have(I've heard of 5 so far), how can you find some time to drive them all?
Besides that, for the desire of getting another awesome machine!

+1. Listing more vehicles from your Awesome Garage in your sig would be helpful to some.

I would never want to talk you off buying Aston (not that you care about my opinion ), I just cannot imagine the situation when an owner of so many great cars could even think of buying another one, especially when Astons are for me in a slightly different league than Turbo S, not to mention 2RS and GTO.
But I will probably never be rich, so what the fvck do I know...

Is the Vantage S available in the US yet? I've driven one, and it is leagues ahead of a standard V8 in terms of feel and handling. Sportshift 2 'box is one of the best semi-autos i've tried.

It basically takes the looks and feel of the V12 but with the lighter V8 engine. It also gets 430bhp and about a 50kg weight saving.

In this case, I have the Hyper cars with the GT2RS and GTO. I have a supercar in the Turbo S. I have my Porsche Cup Car for the Track and a few other goodies. But I'm just looking for a nice solid "sporty" car with good looks, good interior and a little growl. My commute to work is limited to an average of 70mph with an occasional sprint to 80 or 90mph. Nothing exciting. Any 300hp car would still be too fast. So I looked at the N420 in Carbon Black as having drop dead looks, a nice exhaust, very useable power and a great interior. To me it would be a decent DD. I don't car about the 1 in xxx limited edition. Pretty much useless these days. Even a limited run of 100 cars doesn't mean much, never mind the 420 NS420's.
