For Those Who've Driven Both: S63 or S65?

So, I was supposed to have the chance to spend a day or two with the 2013 S63 AMG this weekend, but due to a last-minute change in scheduling, it's going to be an S65 AMG instead. Obviously, I'm not complaining—especially since I've already spent a fair amount of time with the M157 V8, so I'm excited to try out the AMG V12.

That said, I'm curious to know—anyone out there who's driven both the S63 and S65? And if so, what did you think of the merits of one versus the other? Just interested to hear some opinions on it.

Although on paper they may not seem that different, performance wise, they are two VERY different cars.

I love the sound of the S63, and the "rawness" of the V8.

However, the S65 delivers it's power like a freightrain. Much less "sudden" than the 63, but it just goes and goes. It's hard to compare it to anything without the usual metaphors.

I used to scoff at the price difference when comparing the performance of the two, but having driven the 65, it really makes you think twice.

Sure, the S63 feels more nimble (can you even say that about an S-Class?), however the 65 just takes the essence of the S-Class to the next level. It's hard to ignore a TT V12

Had a new 2009 S65. I agree with your assessment. It is truly a "thrown in the kitchen sink" S class. Comfortable, smooth acceleration, endless speed. You'd need to go over 130 mph to really feel like you are moving at a pretty good clip. Only a few options like night vision and a rear seat upgrade matching front seat functionality. Loved the car. Leased it for 2 years. Huge depreciation so lease the vehicle only.
