E63 AMG: 6.2L V8 Versus 5.5L Turbo V8?

Hi all,

First post here; looking for some advice in regards to picking up an E63. I don't know whether I should try and snap up one of the last remaining 2011 models with the 6.2L M156 V8, or wait for a 2012 with the new M157 5.5 liter twin turbo motor.

I know the new engine has more power, but I've only sampled the M157 in a CL63, and even then it was a very brief drive - not long enough to really get a sense for it. But I have spent some quality time with the '11 E63, and I know just how good that motor is.

Does anyone have experience with both engines who could offer some advice as to what they prefer? I know it's all personal preference, but I just want to hear what people think.

How long do you plan on keeping this car? (the next one you're thinking about)

Depreciation will be huge on the AMG's. As, always.

I'm pretty sure they are still gonna be using the same MCT 7speed from the old e63, that the brought over from the SL63.

Im not sure how much has been done to the car besides the new engine.

I don't like the new rims that they have gone with on standard for the new 5.5k car.

And I think they 6.2 is a better sounding more fun motor, and I'm sure like stoppie said prices will drop when the new car is released state side.

I would personally take an 2011 E63, that sound of the big v8 is intoxicating.

I'm looking to hang onto it for three or four years, probably. Get plenty of good use out of it, but trade it in once the next generation of insane sports sedans arrives...

If you don't mind paying the preimum wait for the 5.5L Bi Turbo. It'll hold it's value a lot more.

Leasing or paying cash?

the twin turbo engine is much more fuel efficient, should get low 20's in mpg and will have eco start. In addition the you can get the p30 powerkit on the the bitutbo engine that will bring it up to 550hp and 590 pounds of torque. I am guessing this will give the panamera turbo s a run for the money for the fastest production sedan in the world. For me its a no brainer to wait. I drove the s63 with the TT engine and I can only imagine what the e63 is going to be like.
