I guess that is covered now .
Something I forgot to mention was iCloud.
You can add photos and apps to your mac through iCloud. For that, you need to open your iPhoto and switch on Photo stream. That sends all your pics to all the iOS devices connected. So, you don't need to connect to iTunes all the time.

DJ... I've never really trusted iTunes fully when it comes to pics etc.

I connect phone to mac, iTunes will open automatically, but then open up iPhoto.

Import all from the phone via iPhoto. Then they'll open in your iPhoto library as well as being stored locally on your mac.

DJ Do you have the iClould photo stream enabled? If so, then you can try this Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices.
If this doesn't work, I believe you need to move the file to your camera roll on the phone so that you can browse to the file on the mac when you plug the phone in. That is what I had to do for me to see it on my PC, since I was only able to see the photos and videos located in the camera roll.

DJ are you using a Mac or a PC ??

I know what you mean about not seeing the pics or video but everytime you plug into your computer (sync) itunes does store your pics and videos on a seperate file for backup. I recently lost my iphone with over 500 pics and when I bought and synced a new one, all of my contacts, pics, notes, etc. transfered over from the last time I synced. So I only lost a couple of recent pics at most and just to clarify I wasn't using icloud.

The great thing about the iphone is that they do make it pretty idiot proof (which is great for me ) you just have to find the path to the folder that has your pics. Hope that helps.

jacob11 is an unknown quantity at this point
If you are a Mac user then Connect your iPhone to it via the USB cable and then on the upper right hand of your screen use the spotlight feature and search for "Image Capture". This will let you transfer the photos and videos in their original size to your computer.
