Is there any free anti virus mac software available for download? My mac is running a bit slow and want to scan it for viruses. Incase there's no free software, whats the best paid one in terms of cost and function?

There is no Antivirus software for Mac. Macs don't have viruses. And, if you see online ads which say 'speed up your Mac' or 'Clean your Mac', don't download them.

It's very Naive to believe that no virus can infect a mac, I know of 116 threats that can effect Mac's.

Yes there are certain things that will affect a MAC but the chances are much less likely and the targets have never been MAC so much as PC. But ye you are correct.

 

Yes, that is if you do something stupid. Apple has now released an update to shut any more threats.

 

Thank you all for your reply. I know that MAC should not get affected by viruses, but I still am not sure 100% that thats correct. My MAC is not operating as fast as it should. Any clean up tips?

How long has it been since the drive was formatted? How much RAM is installed? Do you have an SSD or an HDD? Assuming you've updated the software to current specs (depending on your OS), you should be fine. I'd double-check that you've applied the recent Java update to eliminate the newest security threat first, and go from there.

As for antivirus software, I'd stay away from it. Apple does an overall excellent job handling the security of their software, so just keep up to date on their releases & you'll be fine.
