I got the replacement nano in about 1.5 week after mailing it back. The new unit works great and I am getting a watch band for it.
It's a little to navigate without the wheel. Wished it had a camera or bluetooth.

there are tons of the replacement nanos on craigslist and ebay. people are dumping them for as low as $75. ridiculous.... i think it'd dissuade apple from doing the right thing in the future.
i got a nato band to wear it as a watch. check out lunatik watch bands. they make a great watch and fitness tracking device too.

Don't hold your breath. A few thousand people, maybe, trying to game a replacement program isn't even a blip on the radar.
