iPad 3 might be out by Christmas, but probably more like Jan/Feb next year. It's unlikely they'll put a Retina panel in it unless the pricing comes down significantly. To make them that big isn't cheap.

It does, however it is not an open-to-all implementation for any number of reasons.

I've Been wanting an iPad but the first wasn't enough. This is a good step, but it still lacks the high red screen I was hoping for. My plan was to buy July/august before I travel this fall, but I'm not sure I want to with iPad 3 coming out later this year. iPad 1.5 sounds a lot better, reminds me of the 3GS iPhone.

I got my iPad as a gift(birthday) and didn't think I would use it that much, but I do. However, this new version doesn't excite me at all. No USB, still no approved adobe sites, and no improved memory. I filled up my 64gb with movies, pics, and so much music that it now ask me to delete pics or videos just to install updates on my apps

Apple's annual product evolution is pure genius. IMO, if you get every other generation you will always be pretty current and have a solid and not outdated product. Updating every generation is generally a bit unnecessary. I wanted an iPad 1, but decided to hold out with no multitasking and all that. Once the software update came along, I knew it would only be a few months before the "iPad 2". I am happy with the updates and will be getting this one. If the "iPad 3" is that good and merits an upgrade, there will still be plenty of market to sell the "iPad 2". Otherwise, I think this one should hold me over til the "iPad 4" or equivalent.
