Noob with a MacBook Pro

That's common for weirdly formatted windows FAT partitions. If you don't have any data when opening the device (double click it from the desktop), then it's likely the actual data is somewhere else on the drive.
Open Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility) and all of the partitions on the device will be in the left pane. If any do not show up under the "partition" tab, they are not readable by OS X. Some, though typically very few, weird windows format schemes are like this.
Failing all else, create a single partition with a file system (format) type of "MS-DOS" via Disk Utility, dump your data back onto the device from the doze box, and everything should then show up fine when you mount it again on the Mac.

Thanks man!!!!!!
I could have had Apple do it if I left the computers with them for 3-5 days. No way. I'd be dead with no computer for that long.

Considering you're transferring 8gb, and the speed of the transfer is dependent upon the speed of the memory card...it could be somewhat slow yes.

It was an 8GB Compact Flash. It ended up taking like an hour for 1800 photos that were most likely all like 3mb each. I don't know there size. Still don't have it all but as usual
You guys were a lot of help
Thanks
