i have the same issues since updating mine. Also, many of my apps now crash where they wouldn't before

for the life of me I can't remember what I did but the stuttering and crashing is gone.

You can also try closing all the programs you are using by double-tapping the home button, holding your finger on an icon until it wiggles, and then tapping the red x's.

I had no clue the applications stayed open and you had to do this to actually close out of them. I definitely had every app still open, closing all of them helped speed up the phone, Thanks for the advice!

If you ask me, this whole Multitasking thing in iOS 4.0 is more of a burden than a feature. I hate having to remember to close everything all the time.
