You'll love it..

After RAM, I would say it has the biggest impact for everyday usage. Not sure about the impact when working with heavy processing or photoshop but for every day "snappiness," the difference is HUGE. Makes your computer feel worlds faster. I imagine the other two would largely be limited by your processor and graphics.

Well, installed the Vertex 2 tonight and now the screen is just blank. As soon as I turn it on, the DVD drive spins up for about 35 seconds, but nothing happens. The pulse light is also blinking 3 times in succession with 5 second pauses in between.
I switched back to the original drive and the same thing happens...now I'm starting to freak out.
F1-LH, any idea what may be going on? The DVD drive won't respond to the eject button either.

Did you put the OSX cd in so it can boot the OS on the drive?
If so, hold down the track pad for a bit until the CD pops out of the CD drive. It's okay, nothing is broken on your Mac. Also, if that doesn't work hold down the eject button until it releases.

I set it aside and started fresh this morning.
Went back through all my steps and I had done everything right, but once I pulled the ram out, I noticed something had lodged itself on the end of one of the ram sticks. Hit the slot and the ram with some compressed air, buttoned it back together and the computer came to life.
I reinstalled snow-leopared, but am now having some trouble reloading all the old settings from my time-machine back-up which I hadn't experienced previously. I'm going to tackle that tomorrow.
Overall though, the speed is up significantly when loading applications and I've also noticed it runs cooler too.

Yeah time-machine can lose some settings, like I lost all my power settings and what not, but other than that it was all ok.
Enjoy the SSD!
