Getting MacBook Pro

Ordering one this week. Probably basic 13'' 2.4....

I do not do a lot of crap. Very basic stuff.
Any reason to get 2.66 or 8GB ram? I doubt I'd notice a difference over 2.4 and 4GB.

I surf the web, type documents, stream videos, download songs... That is about it.

* I am a student so I see I get a $100 discount (so $1099 for basic). Do they still have the free iPod Touch promo?

You should be fine with your specs, no need to spend the extra $$$.

For what you'll be using it for that will be good enough, you dont need anything better.

Good to hear, thanks guys.

It will replace my IBM laptop as my only computer. Thinking 13'' is a bit small for at-home stuff, but I will get used to it. Don't want to spend the $500 more on a 15''. Plus a buddy has the 15'', seems almost a bit large, and another buddy has a 13'', only a tad small.

IMO the 15" is the perfect size, but I use mine as a primary workstation where the extra screen real estate comes in handy. For your needs the base unit sounds fine.

Wyatth, I have the 15" and I feel like when i have it on my lap it feels a bit big. However, when I put it up on a desk away from me it is perfect size. I'll say it depends on how you see yourself using it. On a desk or on your lap.

13" is fine, since your a student is also easier for you on the move. 2.4 is all you need, I only got the 2.66 because the 2.4 wasnt available when I wanted to get mine.

The Laptop is amazing, its way better than Windows laptops. You are going to love it!

I'm also a student and have the 13 inch MBP as my only computer. It's perfect size for carry around.

Buy 13in and spend a couple of hundred bucks on a 22+ in monitor for when at home.

Best of both worlds

I've got the 13 inch and love it. The only things I bumped up for was the bigger hard drive since i keep a lot of videos and music on it, but I feel like it's the perfect size for a laptop that you can throw in a backpack or carry around. The monitor would be a sweet setup as well, but I have had no problems with the screen size. It's been plenty fast for everything I've done with it.

I'm pretty sure the free ipod deal ended in september, but you should definitely check out the website to double check. If you qualify, the education store on their website gets you about $100 off the base price of the computer.

Enjoy it!
