I dunno, but I keep wondering why would someone bring a prototype phone to some random bar? If it's really a prototype, the damn thing wouldn't make it out of its secured building.

Last time I was a VZ customer (~1.5 years ago), their BB world phones accepted SIMs.

Not necessarily. Jobs and Ives have both been rumored to use upcoming product prototypes "in the wild" to test them out.
