New iphone question
So I ordered the new 32g iphones to replace my wife and my 1st generation ones. They should be here today and I'm stressing over the right way to set them up. I keep reading conflicting information everywhere.
Obviously, I would like to just get all of our data from each of our phones on to our new phones. What is the easiest way to accomplish this? Do I need to swap SIM cards? When I do my regular backups on itunes, does that hold onto everything in my phone (pictures, apps, notes, etc) or just contacts?
Lastly, can we use our old phones as just internet vehicles to leave around the house? or do they have to be activated to work like that.
Thanks for any help with setting me straight

As long as you have backed up to iTunes, you should just be able to sync the new phone with iTunes and it will place everything onto the new phone.
As far as swapping SIMs, the new handsets aren't coming with SIM cards?
And for the old handsets, I would just remove the SIM card. It should basically function as an iPod Touch without it.

All you have to do is sync your old phone so that the backup is up to date and then just plug in the new phone. When iTunes ask for a backup to restore your new phone from you just choose the backup you just made and it will transfer everything, pictures, videos, apps, contacts, etc.
After the new phone is going just pop the SIM card out of the old one and it will be an ipod touch and can still get on WiFi networks for internet. I kept mine just as an extra remote for our appleTV.

My wife and I both are on our family calling plan. You will share the call minutes and text messages on the plan, but both iPhones will require their own respective data plan.

No problem! Don't be shocked to see your SMS history restored as well. Those backups capture damn near everything off of the phone.

Yeah all that stuff is there! It's odd though, one of the phones activated in seconds and the other one still hasn't activated more than 4 hours later. It said it could take up to 48hours, but that seems a bit odd.
I guess I will wait it out.

What a total nightmare this is getting my wife's phone activated. Apple support and ATT support both seem to think it should be working now.
They are both incorrect.
I guess we will wait another 24 hours to see if that helps
