Mini DV to Mac?

I have a macbook 13" and would like to transfer some track footage to it but unfortunately there does not appear to be an easy way to do so. According to the info I was able to gather, you need a firewire cable to make the transfer which does not make a whole lot of sense (and the macbook does not have a firewire port). Beyond that, everything I found said it is not possible.

The camera is a Sony from about 4 years ago.

Thanks for any help.

I'm pretty sure there are adaptors. I've seen this question elsewhere, either at MacRumors online or at Fry's or Microcenter.

Depends on the equipment you're using. If your camera is fairly recent, it should have a FireWire output which will allow you to stream the DV footage directly to the computer. You will, of course, need a machine with FireWire.

As you don't, your best bet is to pick up a USB2 to FireWire bridge and use that.

Hmm, I'll look into it further.

I do have a usb connector and I am able to transfer videos/pictures from the memory stick, however the tape it simply not being recognized.

I assume that macrumors is a fairly good resource--any other mac forums that may be able to assist me? This must be a common problem for people and I have a hard time believing there is not a solution.

Worst case scenario I have an older Sony desktop I could hook up and my mother has a iMac that I could use. It is so much easier using my everyday laptop though and not have to bother with transferring files and so forth, plus I won't have to come back home to edit videos.

The tape itself is never recognized (the camera is when you plug it in). Rather, you have to pull it up via your editing suite and capture from there. You're recording straight to tape, so the SD card is irrelevant.
