Tethering iPhone to your laptop

*** You have to Jailbreak the iPhone so if you are not comfortable with that stop here.***

I tried this tonight because I have a need for Internet access next week (stupid homework) but I'm traveling to a location with no normal Internet access available. I can get a cell signal, so that's what I've got.

I followed the instructions here

iPhone and iPhone 3G jailbreak and unlock guide - Pwnage Tool 2.2 jailbreaks and unlocks iPhone 2.2 OS!

for using the Pwnage tool to jailbreak the phone. SUPER easy, no command line anything, just follow the directions and you are done in no time.

Then follow these directions

iPhone WiFi Router - PDA Net makes iPhone 3G tethering easier than ever

to put the PDA Net app on your iPhone. It is what your laptop will connect to for access to the Internet via your data plan. Also very easy.

Deam is an unknown quantity at this point
I love Cydia, don't know what I'd do without it. Especially with the new 3.0, I'm only more excited! I use PDAnet frequently, it's very reliable, and very easy to use.

Sweet. Would you mind starting a Cydia thread and recommending any good apps?
