Anyone getting the *new* MBP 17"?
I'm thinking about converting over to Mac now. Now because they have finally gotten pretty competitive with the specifications, also the new technology with the glass mouse pad, glass screen and LED backlight is nice! I'm sick and tire of mass produced cheap PC's that don't work well. I own two HP laptops and I think they both suck. I had to buy an extended warranty on my HP and sent it in twice for repairs in less than 1 year. My wife's HP has a dying HD that prevents it from starting up everytime. These are 1 year old laptops!
What is everyones experience with Macs?

They've been "competitive" for 5+ years, and depending who you ask, some time before that as well.
Should be a no-brainer from a quality standpoint. Macs are built better, and hence worth a lot more, even after 2-3 years.
My primary machine is still a 15" Core 2 Duo MBP, and I have no real need to replace it as it's plenty fast and does everything I need it to.

I'm still running my 4 year-old Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 and I have no trouble doing image adjustments and renderings in adobe CS4. I got the latest iLife, iWork and Microsoft Office running as well. I did upgrade the RAM to 2GB and HD to 160GB as I'm more into photography now, but I'm still running the original battery on it. It's capable of 1:30mins of video watching or about 3 hours of writing or surfing the web. I will never buy a PC again.

Sounds good, I'm just waiting for them to hit the shelves. I bought my wife the 15" MBP and thought it was cool as hell. The iLife is awesome. I like the Faces and Places Feature. Now I'm taking up Guitar lessons in Garage Band.

I saw they had released the 17" version recently. Just make sure you need the extra screen real estate, as that thing is BIG. Personally, I love my 15" 2.4ghz MBP with matte screen, multi-touch pad, etc. Can't imagine needing anything that performs any better, or a laptop that is built better.
