DVI vs. Mini Displayport

Differences? Is Mini Displayport (which is what the new MBP's come with) significantly better than the DVI that my first generation MBP has?

For all practical purposes it's the same-- just a smaller form factor and a newer spec that allows them to incorporate HDCP and a few other things.

I run DVI to VGA to watch movies using my 42" LCD that are on my MBP. Seems to do a good job maintaining the image. Is this the best way to go about this?
