I find this happens a lot. Normally, when the song is dl'd you right click and open and it automatically opens in itunes.

Many times, however, it refuses to go over to itunes or open at all. It says mp3 audio file and ends in .mp3.

What gives?

Should work fine if you have iTunes set to handle .mp3 extensions. The only exceptions I can think of would be corrupt files, or those which have been given .mp3 extensions, though which are not actually mp3 files.

How can I check or do this?

Highlight one of the files in question in the finder (single click) and hit command (apple) + I. That will bring up the file info box, and tell you what the default program is ("open with").

So far as checking if the file is corrupt, there's no easy way without a checksum of the original.
