According to Motor Trend's Jonny Lieberman, Porsche will reveal it's new 911 GTS at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The new GTS will use the 992 codename, not the 991.2 label for the facelifted 911 range as expected by many.

The GTS will be available in coupe and convertible body styles, and possibly feature an all-wheel drive variant dubbed the GTS Carrera 4.

The Los Angeles Auto Show opens its doors to the press on November 18 so expect more details to come soon.

Interesting. So I'm guessing Porsche considers the facelift as big a deal as they did the 996-997 transition? Seems kind of surprising to me.

Hm, that is interesting.

I'm expecting a lot of big changes to come along with the turbo-4 and hybrid models.

Ha ha ha... it's a devilioushly clever plan. It will go something like this at your next Porsche Club event... "oh, you own an old 991 - so when are you going to upgrade to the new 992?"

Where as, if it was called the 991.2 - you'd still own the current model

Actually it appears it is. (Still hoping its not the case though)

Porsche's Chief of engineering Wolfgang Hatz has confirmed that turbo-assisted engines will be offered throughout the entire next-generation 911 line-up (except for the GT3) during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

Hatz went on to explain to Top Gear, "You have to respect legal requirements [for lower CO2], so yes we're thinking turbos for standard 911s. You can't afford to keep an engine for 10 years any more."

"Emissions are important for us, and we will reduce faster than the industry. Every new model will have lower CO2 than before. There aren't so many technologies to do it. If you look at euro per g/km then it's turbo. Then at the end of the decade electrification has to be the next huge step."

Hatz also confirmed that hybrid technology will be implemented into a 911 model, and that Porsche is confident that the overall Porsche customer base will embrace a 911 hybrid model.
