Facelifted 2016 Porsche 911 Models Spotted Playing In The Snow

The facelifted Porsche 911 (type 991) Coupe & Twin-Turbo models have been spotted again by our trusty Teamspeed spies. The new coupe is sporting what looks to be a new front bumper with revised air intakes and daytime running lights. The big-brother twin-turbo is sporting what seems to be a more mild freshening, but for the life of us we can't figure out why since this model was seemingly just introduced.

For the entry-level 991 coupe we notice at the back new rear lights under the cammo, and also a new rear bumper. Here's where it gets really puzzling. If you look closely at the lower portion of the rear bumper, you will spot air outlets on each side, which brings us to the latest rumors floating around that all future 911´s will be powered by a turbocharged engine.

The entry level coupe would see a smaller six-cylinder engine with turbo assistance so Porsche can lower the CO2 emissions. Again this is pure speculation as this could simply be a form of camouflage to throw everyone off, but we can't rule it out.

Considering the heritage and prestige adding turbos to a 911 has had for the last 30-plus years, I kind of thought they'd do the replace-displacement-with-turbos engine switcheroo on the Boxster and Cayman first and hold off on doing it for the 911 as long as possible. Maybe not.

Still, the idea of a 911 Carrera that gets 35-plus mpg on the highway is cool—so long as the performance doesn't suffer. (It's Porsche, so I doubt it will.)
