Porsche Recalling 2,263 991 Carrera Models

Porsche is recalling 2,263 911 Carrera models to replace an exhaust system that could fail prematurely, according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The tailpipes could crack and fall off on 2012 and 2013 models as the cars age, particularly as they reach more than 25,000 miles, according to internal testing by Porsche. Only the Carrera and Carrera 4 models equipped with the standard exhaust are affected. Carrera models fitted with the louder sport exhaust system are not under the recall, nor are any of the more powerful S models. No customers have experienced any failures, according to Porsche.

Dealers will replace the mufflers with reinforced units when supplies become available. Owners can call Porsche at 1-800-767-7243.

Meanwhile, Lotus is recalling an additional 451 cars in the U.S. to fix faulty oil-feed pipes that are prone to rupturing. In January, Lotus recalled 5,041 Elise and Exige models from 2005-2007 after receiving 108 warranty claims in North America for leaking oil hoses. It has since expanded the recall to include the 2007-2008 Elise and Exige.

In October, Lotus recalled 80 Evora S models from 2011 after two fires and several engine failures were reported outside the U.S. for similar problems relating to leaking oil-feed pipes. While all Lotus models use Toyota-built engines, Lotus had designed the oil pipes and later changed them to a sturdier design in later models.

Dealers will replace the oil hose and all fittings beginning March 4. Owners can call Lotus at 1-800-245-6887.
