Man, that sounds awful! For what it's worth, I live in Atlanta but have my 993 registered at my parents' house in rural Georgia, where there's no emissions testing; no issues thus far (although it's obviously still a Georgia plate so it arouses less suspicion). A coworker of mine has lived here for 7 years and driven on Michigan plates the entire time with no issues either.
i used to distribute wheels out of cali, one set shipped to florida and then back to a customer in cali... somehow they figured out the tracking on the package and came after us for state tax... they got some voodoo masters working for them out there (and in die hard need of that tax money)
