As the world turns.... the life of a 991..

DUDE!, if i would have bought a 458 the way i wanted to when it came out, could have driven it almost 3 years now and broken even... thats the downside of being over analytical.. is sometimes you say no to things and they turn out being smart choices.
another smart choice would have been an 07 gallardo in 09 for 85k which would be worth 105/110 right now.. or the 08 Superleggera i found for 115 then, which would have been 140/150 right now..
that all boils down to the shoulda, woulda, coulda-ness.

I love the post Riley....and i love the car ADD.....oh, and i loved your 991 when i got a chance to go for a spin. However i must say that this style works for you - and that is great - but what would drive me personally crazy is not getting a MACKED OUT new car just the way i wanted and then driving the crap out of it until i was done with it.....only to sell it for the next car (in my price range) that totally got me bonkers to drive it. That is my "method" and it works for me - in a different way. 5th Porsche in 4 years. 3 of which were brand new - one ordered - total of around 150,000 miles driven in them - and lost A LOT of money. But the best part is - i dont care
I do love the trick on your DD's though - the Cayenne move was brilliant and since its not your "fun car" nor something that excites you (or anyone?) then flipping in and out is as simple as moving your EZPASS and garage door opener to the next one LOL --- that is complete awesomeness. What will your next DD flip be?

Complete BS.
1.the 991 is not 100KG lighter - even Porsche doesnt say that
2. tons of HP: if you consider 450HP as tons of HP..compared to 435HP...strange way of counting
3. Whether 997 GT2 - GT3 will be old news - will not be decided by you but by independent sources...
4. 8 year old design - correct - but in car design/manufacturing gains are always becoming smaller and smaller..gaining additional weight will become more and more expensive...like it will become more and more difficult to make an already very fast car even faster..

Hi rijowsock,
1. dont want to argue here or make this thread miserable - but your numbers are complete...Porshce said that it roughly saved 35KG..anything else is simply wrong. Sport Auto in Germany - whos tests are even known in Australia and all over the world - weighted the car and it was even 40KG heavier then the 997.2.
2. Yes, the 997 turbo is fast..but not really faster then a manual GT3..only on straight lines..
3. PDK - yes it can bring down times..but dont forget that it weighs 35KG more than a manual gearbox - on average: more weight = less fast
I dont like to argue at all...but we are a Porsche thread here...and your words/tone sound a bit like if all Porsches are a piece of ... coupled with wrong information.
But anyway, I agree with you that the "GT variant will (must) rectify this issue

watch that,
also if you would like the contact info to my friend @ porsche in germany who can confirm the weight difference, PM me.. i double checked with him. and it's 110lbs when comparing apples to apples. (similar options as options all add weight)

i do order them exactly how i want them, but for me the word want encompasses many things... yes ventilated seats would be nice, but at the same time i do not need them, never felt myself "missing them".. and therefore the $1500 was better in my pocket.. this is the same mindset that tells me "yes going to singapore tomorrow would be nice, but I have things to do and don't want to just toss money out the window on a superfluous trip"..
i ordered the 991 exactly how i wanted it and loved every second of it, i do wish some options were setup differently but i cannot change that..
The gT3 options list is always my favorite.. pick a color.. add the "full leather" i.e. suede interior... and you're set.. already has adjustable coilovers... already has better brakes... already has everything.. my "dream" 997.2 GT3 was a 115k car... all I added was the suede interior and is was perfect... never understood how some people spec'd them to more expensive than the damn GT3RS... because half those options don't belong in a race car...
everyone has their own things.. i'll gladly drive porsches for free for life... you guys can do whatever you please with your hard earned money... i work my ass off for mine so i'll pinch every penny...
keep in mind, i am not all knowing.. this is just what works for me... it's just an opinion (besides the 997.2/991 weight difference ) @jumping_horse

sounds like you need some echinacea and vitamin C my friend!
always wondered what would keep someone from simply buying a cheap house in another state and registering all their cars there.... would save extreme taxes and smog regulations and tons of stuff... could even get mail forwarded and show as primary residence and it would not be illegal.. you would just be an owner of multiple homes...
i have multiple homes and use my one house for all my insurance/etc because the zip code is much cheaper.... it's not illegal at all and saves me money.

btw i forgot to mention one of the biggest upgrades to the new 911 is the new chassis... i personally feel this is where most of the "quickness" comes from when it's being raced against the outgoing 997..
jumping into the 991 you can instantly feel the difference, corners that once felt risky at 70 now feel controlled and calm at 85+.. the chassis is a wonderful thing and this is why i personally feel the GT version will be even better.. 400HP in the 991S feels good and strong, but 465HP in the GT3 coupled with firmer suspension, a thicker roll bar, better tires and better seating options (carbon buckets) will just be a thrill to drive and actually feel like a sports car versus the luxury GT car the 991 is currently..
I chose to sell my 991 because it was far too "old man" or "soccer mom" than the outgoing model.. they improved many areas but at the same time they calmed down these improvements to make it appeal to a wider array of clientele.

just wrote you back..
for the sake of clarity - some good independent motor journalism can be found here see link below - nothing else to be said anymore - I only believe what can be confirmed by independent sources, Im also happy that this magazine "dismantled the lie of the Nissan GTR"...fast as the C-GT on the ring...ha- I had to laugh when I heard that. Thank you Sport Auto and keep the good work going.

if the car is in CA for 10 days, as a resident or not, it must be registered.
if you're driving around w/ Oregon plates all day, you will get pulled over. often. simply not worth the hassle compounded over many years.
and it's pretty easy to prove where you live, in most cases - just show us your W2.

strictest state in the whole nation...
i guess employment is an easy way to show residency, but i meant for the unemployed folk.... at the end of the day, i guess don't try and pull one over on cali... im glad that florida is relaxed, no state income tax, rollover sales tax on vehicles, just wish we had san diego climate and topography.
