Launch Control is the dumbest thing invented for street cars. We do that when the light turns green. NOT

To clarify what I'm saying is the car has lost its edge. The old cr you could slide around and have some fun. This car with traction control off, even in the rain it is hard to get the rear to move. It has become very easy to drive. Now this is PERFECT for the average guy that's driving it daily. It is a better daily driver. What I'm saying is for those who want to go to the trek. Be challenged and have fun, I don't think this is the car for you.

Think about this. It's like he 996 GT3 to the 997 GT3. The 997 was miles better, but it wasn't nearly as hardcore. The 996 had no sound detening in the roof, it was absolutely a pure road racer. The 997 was more plush, it was easier to drive, it was faster but maybe not as fun. I think they have taken the same step here. The new car will be faster, it will be better, but it's not as fun. My concern is Porsche has lost their edge.

The interiors great. It's more comfortable, the center console is much more accessible and the seating position is lower and more sporty feeling. I loved that.

The biggest thing I loved was the noise, you could hear it with sport exhaust and I loved that.

I was just disappointed because I was expecting to slide it, to really have some fun, and the car has lost that a bit. Just my $.2!

porsche518 is an unknown quantity at this point
Funny comment from a pro racer driving a panamera turbo. Many would argue that was where Porsche went astray with the cayenne and panamera.

People seem to forget the fact that the 911 is under assault by an ever growing litany of sports/gt cars. Every time a new m3, aston, amg, audi r8, comes out the target is the 911. I think Porsche has done a remarkable job of making car this relevant into the 20th century. The line now offers something for everyone, from a sports car to a street legal race car. All while adhering to strict crash and emission laws.

The c2s is all reality is a DD or weekend ride for 99% of people with the occasional track day for the true enthusiast and what has Porsche given us, a car that will best the previous generation gt3....

Next up, how the M5 will never be a contender against the lamborghini.

I can see both sides on this issue but I can absolutely see where Graham is coming from as a pro racing driver he probably has a better feel for these cars than the avg. guy. But for the avg guy im sure the 991 is more than enough. I hope they find a way to make the gt3 version really special which I'm sure they will, so let's wait for that before we start panicking.

Unfortunately it seems to be a common trend. Just take the M3 as an example. Over the years it's gone from a knife edge handling type of car to a more plush and comfortable DD type vehicle. Engines provide more power, the car softens up, engineering advancements make it faster around tracks, and the overall visceral experience drops. Porsche used to be the exception to the rule, however it seems that with the 991, they have conformed to market trends. In the end, we can only hope Zuffenhausen comes through with an uncompromised GT3 for us diehard gearheads...

I see what Graham is saying......and it has led me to this little slogan:

The Cayman is the new 911 (pre 1998) and the 911 is a new GT model all in itself that will compete with the M6/Maserati/CL63.

Has Porsche lost its "edge" - no. They just shuffled things around on us

(my $.02)

You guys do know that CLIENTS/OWNERS are to blame for all of this? You think Porsche wants all that shit in a car? If it was up to them they'd still be producing 993's. But survey after thousands of surveys and This is what you get. You all (Im guilty too) somehow expect the car to do everything. Bluetooth, comfy, fast, quick shifts, complient, sirius/xm, and stable. You name it, you all expect so much of the cars these days- regardless of the pricepoint. So, before you start moaning about what Porsche or BMW or MB or even Honda has done; blame yourselves first.

You got what you wanted. Now enjoy it for what it is. Or keep driving a 997 or E60 chassis.
