Couldnt agree more..the more PDKs there will be - there more there will be a percent of people who want to have back the old fashioned shifting...this is why I believe there will always be 20-30% owners of 911 who want manual.

Besides, in 15 years it might turn out that PDK will be a real problem for the cars...

But of course, for city etc..ist more practical..

Just got a new 2013 Boxster Base PDK. I had it for 4 weeks, 1000 miles, and PDK failed Saturday. Car was still drivable, but it went into emergency transmission mode (limp mode). It would not go past 2nd gear. Took it to dealer that day. They are replacing gearbox in whole as I write. Pick it up tomorrow. Very disappointed in Porsche! Love the car, but this kinda sours the whole thing. Giving me flash backs of my previous Ferrari days. Yuck! I'm hoping this won't be a love hate relationship like Ferrari.

How is it not serviceable??...might not make economic sense, but it's just a part like the hundreds of other parts that make up a 911.

OP was a bit harsh, i understand his frustration with getting a new car and having the PDK fail on your within a few hours, but even $50 million dollar planes have failures at times and Porsche's reliability track record is better than a lot of other auto Manufacturers.

My biggest problem on the subject of reliability is brands like Ferrari and Lambo that build $100-300K vehicles that are highly unreliabile and cannot even be driven on a daily basis. I just dont get that.

Summary of PDK Faults 2010 Carrera S4

5,000 miles - failure to move in forward/reverse. Cycled the ignition off/on to clear. Trailered to dealer. Transmission oil change; program/change circuit board.
10,400 miles - red emergency transmission run
13,780 miles - red emergency transmission run, white emergency transmission run, transmission over temp.
This dealership hasn't been able to resolve the problem with the PDK failures.
Probably would be a good time to contact Porsche North America
