How long would you keep the 991 cabriolet if you did get one? If its short term, then don't worry about the top. If its long term, as long as you take care of the top, it'll look great outside of 10 years. I've seen boxsters with 90000 miles on them with tops that looks surprisingly almost 'like new'. so I know it's possible.

BTW ... I think the top is fine. It straightens out once up. Just like ... ahhhhh .... me.

The folds do look messy. It's pretty short sighted to simply say "you don't keep your car long enough to care", well, some people do, and I'd say that most pork enjoy a lifespan of more than 2-3 years. Given they don't end up wrapped around a tree, of course. So over time messy folding like that will become an issue, unless Porsche made some improvements in the fabric, which we have not heard about.
