A View From Weissach

They were originally put there on the 996. Most likely as a suggestion from Toyota to keep costs down. As it was also suggested by Toyota to give the 911 and Boxster the same front end.

Porsche will not put PDK in GT cars until it feels it is necessary or if they want to be Ultra lazy. They can release the same 997 GT3, equip it with PDK and it will fly around the Nurburgring 10 seconds faster easily. They dont do it for the sole reason of not having to. Not yet anyway. It is completely superior and if you dont want it it is for the pure simple reasone of you like the feel of the stick which I understand. MAKE NO MISTAKE THOUGH, stick is OLD TECHNOLOGY that cannot compete.
With all that being said I dont know what I would do if given the choice :-(

But, while most of what you say is true, but the fact of the matter is, in a road car, you're never going to worry about going as absolutely fast as possible, because you simply can't. So then, why not have fun and drive a manual?
On the racetrack though, paddle shifters are becoming a necessity.

Maybe 3 or 4 seconds faster, but definitely not 10!

^^ This is true it is all relative on a raod car. Then there is the argument for PDK and acceleration......... ;-)
As far as the track times the sales kool-aid that was being given out in 09 was something like the 997.2 is 3-4 seconds quicker around track and up to 11 or something crazy with PDK! I dont remeber excatly but it was significant. I unfortunately dont remebmer where I exactly read that either

Maybe im crazy
