Why the 991 has larger wheels...

i'm sure its both function and aesthetic. on their web special it states not only do the larger wheels help dynamic performance but look imposing as well.
lets not forget 20's are the new direction for high performance vehicles, as seen on the Ferrari 458, 599, optional on the California as well as the Aventador.

but what always is in my mind when it comes to 20s is the highe unsprung weight and the greater roll diameter which actually makes the car accelerate slower...
what´s the trick here then?
lighter wheels,shorter gearing?

From what I've gathered, the PDK gearing is the same, the manual gearing is now has the same ratios as PDK, and all 20 inch options are lighter than the 19 inch options of the 997.

Because of the brakes? Was braking really a problem?
I believe it's either aesthetics or they wanted more rubber on the road.
A larger outside diameter tire has a longer tire contact patch, and therefore more potential grip.
