I'm quoting the images onto this page just because why not. And yeah, no 996 is strange. I think Porsche is trying to ignore a step in there evolution of the 911.

Porsche is avoiding the inevitable comparisons and comments that the 991 looks very similar to the 997.2. I also believe there just isn't enough space in that room, so the 996 didn't make the cut.
