998 Test Cars in South Africa - pics and video

I got a call from a friend and manage to see some of the 998 test cars + two test Boxsters. The pics are very crappy, old Blackberry ftl, but I had a chance to look the the Carrera's for quite some time and tried to take in as much as I could.

All the cars have daytime running lights, they looks like a cold cathode tube under the LED indicators. Wipers are updated Bosch, windscreen cowl is quite different too. The engine cover looks like all the vanes can change angle, and underneath it is a large wing that retracts completely into the body.

Only 1 had carbon brakes, and those has a visible 997 part number, they rest looked like they were running standard 997 brakes. Also I tool a look underneath and counted 6 pipes in the manifold, so I dont think those flat 8 rumours are true.

Also strangely there was a 997 there disguised as a 993, not quite sure what the point of that was.

Anyway here are the crappy pics.

They put on miles and do the hot weather testing in Upington. These cars had just been in Cape Town and were going to JHB next, then more proper hot testing.

Upington has little traffic and straight roads that go on for miles with 40 Celsius+ temperatures. They like testing in SA as the timezone to Germany is similar, so they can send telemetry into to Germany in realtime for the engineers there to analyze.
