Random thoughts on the 996 ...

A 996 C2 is, and always will be, undesirable because it is the ugliest 911 variant in history - nobody will miss the remaining ones when they too disappear in a cloud of the inevitable engine failure. I don't think anyone's ever really liked that car, even when it was new.
The 996 GT3 RS on the other hand, I believe will be a better collectible than the 997 variants. Simply because it was made in an era where Porsche was still sensible and they didn't make a billion of them. And it is actually quite pretty.

This. And the GT3.
Also, with 996 Turbo prices where they're at now, I think it's one of the best values out there. Ugly headlights and dated interior aside, there's no denying it was a technological marvel (for its time) and a 420hp, AWD sportscar is still mighty desirable to some folks.

Never really liked the interior or the fact that a 996 C2 looks very similar to the boxster from far distance. The 993 is a classic, simple interior and the last aircooled model, never really liked the 996. I like the 993 and the 997.
