I agree Misha. I think they won't keep the current shape.

According to a report, the 911 is 11mm shorter, and check out the new low roof line compared to the 997 in this picture.

The 991 looks so much better.

Keep in mind, that while the 991 is lower, it's also longer. That stretches out the lines as much or more than an 11mm lower roof. Imagine taking a photo of a 997, grabbing the right edge of the photo and pulling it longer. Same effect. My concerns are not with the looks, but the dynamics. I don't want a 6-series BMW, or I'd buy a 6-series BMW.

Bad News: It seems as if the next generation 911 Carrera models will receive a standard glass roof. I'm guessing this, because almost every 991 spy shot that came out since the first mules were spotted, seem to be sporting this roof.

Closed:

Now that you've seen it opened and closed, go search around for 991 spyshots, and you will clearly see the glass roof in the closed position.

Hopefully this is just an option, and won't be mandatory.

With that said, I think that the 997 is the last generation of dedicated Targa models. The Targa roof seems it will now be an option. Also, I think the Targa model might be discontinued because there are virtually none sitting at dealers.

Ok, the 991 is definitely shaping up to be more GT-like from the sound/look of it. IMO, it will be the best DD on the market. Hopefully it doesnt lose too much soul...Then again, thats what the GT-series are for...

you MUST be crazy man....how much more stable do you want the rear end of a rear-engine 911 to be? haha! I've spent two years trying to break the rear of my C2S loose on the track...

Also, the 997 is definitely NOT getting old yet.

Happy NEW YEAR!

He doesn't know. He's like 12...

Agreed about 911 stability. I was able to slide my C2S pretty easily if I did big throttle openings at big steering angles. I've tried to break my C4S loose even in fresh snow with no luck.

Not even in the snow?? I can see not being able to on the track though as all that would do is slow down your lap time.

By the 997 getting old I mean, I can't wait any longer for the new 911.
