Ah, yes.
Those look a lot like the new lightweight alloys introduced on the Boxster Spyder and now available on the Cayman R. Maybe they've been redone for the 991, or they could be the same wheels?
Thought I'd point that out. And Porsche: PLEASE pull a 918 and show us the 991 in Geneva.

^^ Sorry for the late reply. Source link at the bottom.
According to CAR Magazine, the next generation 911 models will still have manual, but it won't be a 6MT, it will be a 7MT (the 7th gear solely for efficiency). I imagine it being on the right side of the H pattern separated from the rest of the gears, just as reverse is to the left, separated. As long as we get a manual transmission, I'm happy.

Still won't be sub-3000 pounds. IIRC, even the base Carrera is around 3100 lbs. It's still good, but the wheelbase growth is not.

You could be right, Chris. Porsche's site states 3,075 for the Carrera, but I always see conflicting weight figures. Even if it does weigh 3100, 50 kilos will bring it to about 2990, but tick a few options, and you're over 3000. And yes, stretched wheel base isn't too great (the 991's wheelbase is equal to the 914's) . 20" wheels aren't really needed either. But, I don't think we'll be disappointed. Besides, you'll probably get a GT3 anyway, right? Man, the things I'd do to have one.

Yep - It's certain to be a GT3 or RS in early 2012. I'll start the search around this time next year. That car Jenks got was perfect (the gray-black without stickers). I'm sure the 991 will be good, but it seems like Porsche is going down the road BMW is going, namely, make the car more "accessible" for everyone. I don't want an M6-alike or I'd buy an M6.
I think if Porsche really wanted to make its base happy, they'd offer a Carrera stripped down to the minimum - manual trans, sports seats, sports suspension, big engine option. Hell, they could call it the Carrera R.
I'd buy one.
